State of the Springs

If you’ve ever met me, you know that I LOVE living in Colorado Springs. I can spend hours talking about its history, beauty, people, and culture. No really, I can…and it can be annoying. However, if I could change something about my beloved city, it would be that there would be more event opportunities here. For over ten years, most of my company’s business originates out of state or out of country but we would love to work more in Colorado.

It seems my prayers may be answered…

047_0816_180600jkAugust brought another opportunity for ILEA Denver to visit Colorado Springs. We gathered at the beautiful Club at Flying Horse where we enjoyed food, drinks, music, and panoramic mountain views. Kathy Reak from the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau shared all the new venues and event opportunities happening in El Paso County over the next two years and even I was amazed! This is big people!

Our industry will be able to greatly expand into Colorado Springs with: a new USAFA visitors center that will not require guests to go on base, and a fully remodeled chapel for weddings; The City of Champions project that will revitalize the southern end of downtown with new restaurants, hotels, a stadium, and an Olympic Museum; The National WWII Aviation Museum will be constructed to include gorgeous event space for large groups and hangars filled with restored aircraft; many new properties acquired by the Broadmoor including the new wilderness experiences (Cloud Camp, Fish Camp, and the remodeled Ranch at Emerald Valley) and the adventure experiences like the country’s largest zip lining courses; and new hotel and meeting options at the Lodge at Flying Horse, Flying Horse Ranch, and the indoor water park and hotel, Great Wolf Lodge.

I know there’s more…contact Kathy Reak! Needless to say, there’s a lot to be excited about and the opportunities for all of us to bring and earn business south of Denver is amazing.

027_0816_174338jkAs always, the best part of the evening for me was meeting so many new people and sharing a laugh with old friends. It’s the people who make up ILEA that are so wonderful. Whether you live in Denver or Fort Collins or Vail or Grand Junction or Pueblo or Colorado Springs, it’s so great to get together with all you awesome event industry professionals!

A big thanks to all our sponsors…we love you all! The Club at Flying Horse for a gorgeous venue, great food, fun tours, and the sweetest team! Laser Sound for all the technology and rad tunes! Lighting and Design by Scott for lighting up our night! Berry in the Wild for stunning décor and service with a smile even when I broke one of your pieces! Studio JK for capturing the evening with photography! Event Rents for the gorgeous linens! Jay’s Valet for providing rides for those poor folks who had to drive all the way from Denver (she said sarcastically)! But seriously thank you Jay’s Valet! And our annual sponsor, Colorado Meetings & Events Magazine!

Thank you to all who came! I hope to you see you again at next month’s ILEA meeting! Reporting from Colorado Spring (the BEST city on the planets), I’m Tami Forero wishing you success and balance!
